Book Synopsis:

Zak is a naturally curious thirteen year old boy – perhaps too curious for his own good. His beloved Granny has completely disappeared and Zak suspects it has something to do with the old Grandfather clock in his hallway. Granny was totally obsessed with winding it up. So one day Zak takes a look…..and ends up falling down a deep, dark tunnel at the base of the clock where he finds the centre of Time, right beneath his house! Zak comes face to face with the Time Queen and her loyal helpers, the Ticks and Tocks who tell him that time is at risk of being stopped for good! Zak needs to act fast to avoid worldwide catastrophe! And why does the Time Queen look familiar? Why does she want WiFi? Can Zak find his Granny and help save time before it is too late? He then faces his greatest challenge – a resurgent and malevolent Time King determined to swiftly end time for good. With the help of the Ticks and Tocks, his amazing Granny (and his dad!) he faces a daring challenge to stop the Time King before it is too late!

My Review:

5 out of 5

This is a fantastic story, especially for young boys. It is full of adventure and mystery, the characters are compelling and relatable and this could quite easily become an enjoyable series. Nick does a fantastic job of creating a world children can get lost in, using words they understand and funny sound effects to make the story for creative. I particularly enjoyed this story and I cannot wait to see if Nick comes up with some more books in this series, I’d love to see what Zak gets up to next.

Once again Nick, you have created a story my children absolutely loved reading. We highly recommend this story.

Perfect for children (I’d give an age range of 7-13) who enjoy:

  • Heroic tales
  • Relatable and funny characters
  • Fantasy stories
  • A more complex but interesting plot

My ratings:

  • Easy to read: 5 out of 5
  • Characters: 5 out of 5
  • Story idea: 5 out of 5
  • Length: 5 out of 5
  • Overall: 5 out of 5
