Mental Snapshots

POP [humble, appreciative, pensive – life-related]

  • Style: Verse [a] and chorus: beautiful and soft, not slow but delicate.  Verse [b] and the bridge are more childlike and happy, a celebration of these memories.
  • Approx BPM: 90

    Verse 1a

    Photographs on the wall
Good times for all to see
    Insta posts of fun days
    I’m smiling happily
    These images are staged
I choose the things you see
    Show what is expected
    By our society

    Verse 1b

    My childhood pic wasn’t
The day I won that prize
It was giving it to my nan
And seeing the love in her eyes
    My 18th birthday pic
    Wasn’t my party entry
It was my parents proud faces
As they both raised a toast to me

    Chorus

    Those perfect moments in life
    The memories I cherish
Aren’t the photographs in the frame
    They are the imperfect times
    And insignificant times
    The mental snapshots I obtain

    Verse 2a

    The best moments aren’t forced
    They happen naturally
It’s the messy and noisy times
That mean the most to me
    When it’s not picture perfect
    But I couldn’t care less
The times my heart feels full
With the love that I possess

    Verse 2b

    My first date pic wasn’t
    Our selfie in the bar
But his fake fall to make me laugh
When we were walking to his car
She was born the pic wasn’t
    A half-naked newborn
It was the perfect way she looked
When she stretched and gave a yawn

    Chorus

     Those perfect moments in life
     The memories I cherish
Aren’t the photographs in the frame
    They are the imperfect times
    And insignificant times
    The mental snapshots I obtain

    Bridge

It’s the laughter with my friends
When we were young and foolhardy
My moms look of no judgement
When I got drunk on Bacardi
The way my daughter says yes
Then wonders what she’s agreed to
When she lies and blames her sister
For the mess she made with her goo

    Chorus

    Those perfect moments in life
    The memories I cherish
Aren’t the photographs in the frame
    They are the imperfect times
    And insignificant times
    The mental snapshots I obtain

    Outro

    Mental snapshots aren’t framed
    They’re not placed on display
    They’re pictures I carry
    With me every single day
    Images that keep me strong
    Through the hardest of times
    Moments with those I love
Who I’m proud to call mine
